Chili Fries?

Recently, I've been seized by the nostalgic yearning for a really great basket of chili fries. It hearkens back to the good times my family would have when we would go to the Dairy Queen down the street and have their basket of fries with the works. O those heady days of mounds of chili, sour cream, green onions, cheese and hot sauce. They were especially good after a particularly rainy winter day when you had to wade through the flooded parking lot to get to them. A trek worth the soggy feet!

Nowadays, Dairy Queen seems to have wiped the very thought of chili fries from their menu. I went in and asked if they had chili for my fries and they handed me a condiment cup with a mere mote of chili for my large box (no basket) of fries. I could have wept for the state of the world.

Now I am reduced to getting Wendy`s chili side and the fries side and pouring chili over the fries with the hot sauce.

Please, rescue me from my anguish. Is there anywhere on Vancouver Island or the Lower Mainland where I can sate my craving for great chili fries? Or am I destined to wander into the United States where chili fries still roam wild and free.

  1. New York Fries !!!! i am also pretty sure that belgium fries on the drive would have it =) Good luck !!!!

    1. Austin Fish and Chips in Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, and Pitt Meadows have them on the menu. I have yet to try them, but they look fantastic. (Not that I pay attention to what other people are ordering.....hardly ever.)

      1. If you're at New York Fries and they don't have chili, or you're extra hungry, their poutine is pretty darn good.

I got a good chuckle out of your post....please let us know if you find your Holy Grail..

        1. If you really, really care about Chili on fries, then you're in the wrong city. Get thee to Winnipeg, and go to Junior's, or any number of local hamburger joints. Homemade fries with the ass-kickingest wonderfulest intensely perfect chili that you'll ever eat. They put it on burgers, too, which makes me swoon with happiness.
