Oysters in Charleston, SC

I'm going to be in Charleston, SC at the end of January. Where are the best places to go for oysters?
I like them raw, grilled, roasted, etc. Thanks

  1. Amen Street has outstanding oysters for lunch or dinner. A W Shuck's has outstanding raw, fried and baked oysters. Hyman's also has outstanding raw or fried oysters and a lot of other good food too.

Amen Street Seafood and Raw Bar @ 205 East Bay Street, Charleston, SC 843 - 853 - 8600.

    A W Shucks @ 70 State St., Charleston, SC. 843 - 723 - 1151.

    Hyman's Seafood Co. @ 213 Meeting St., Charleston, SC. 843 - 723 - 6000.

    1. Amen to Amen St. as an oyster destination in town. I've also had good ones at Hank's, A.W. Shucks, and even Hyman's. For a true old-school oyster roast a short drive away you can't beat Bowen's Island:

      1. AND see if the Sullivan's Island Fire Department is doing their monthly oyster roast during tour stay. I'll be there. It's the best.

oooh I do hope they have this when we are there.... end of June early July. Anybody know of the best 4th of July Day or Evening activity? Food related of course :)

Sorry, oysters will be out of season. The good news is the shrimp will be in.

For the 4th, go to the Mt. Pleasant celebration at Patriot's Point. Fireworks over the harbor!

        2. I've heard the oyster roast down at the Morgan Creek Grill on IOP is pretty good.

          I don't recommend Bowen's Island for anything.

Morgan Creek is unreliable. It's changed hands many times, and while the view is great, the food isn't. Stick with Amen Street.

          2. Pearlz in Downtown or West Ashley. Not sure why they don't get much of a mention on this board. I've had nothing but good experiences with them.

I second Pearlz on East Broad Street. Ate there twice last week and had the steamed gulf oysters both times. Delicious.

Oops. I meant Easy Bay Street. Monday through Friday they have Happy Hour from 4 to 7.
