Tons of places are nearby, some more expensive than others, some more popular than others (long wait times). Is this for tonight? Tomorrow night?
How much are you thinking of spending per person, not including tax, tip (15-20%), wine/drinks/etc.? Any picky eaters, allergies, foods you'd like to avoid? How many in your party (kids? elderly?)?
Hard to recommend places without knowing more details. Nearby is DBGB, Pulino's, Public, Peasant, Peels, Prune, Double Crown, Five Points, Mercat, Freemans, Hecho en Dumbo, Chinatown Brasserie....

This is for Wed. night. Two adults. No food allergies. Not interested in "trendy" places. Some place comfortable where conversation is possible. About $30 or less per person.

OK, one more question: How far are you willing to walk? Because I want to recommend Grand Sichuan St Marks but don't know if that counts as nearby to you. Whoops! I just noticed you didn't mention Chinese as a cuisine you were looking for.
In terms of Italian restaurants, you might be able to get out of Cacio e Vino or Bianca for $30/person or less. If you go to Cacio e Vino, make sure to get some pizza or schiacciata. There seems to always be a good half-price bottle of wine on special, too, and I've enjoyed some of their antipasti. I haven't been to Bianca lately but remember liking their Fritto Misto.

Chinese is fine but proximity is an issue. Need to be reasonably close to venue. I will check out the two Italian places you mentioned.

Congee Bowery, on Rivington St., is closer than Grand Sichuan. Good Cantonese/Hong Kong-style food.
