German food and nearby bars?

Hey all,

I'm planning my best friends bachelor party which is coming up soon, and I was wondering if you all have suggestions for a good German restaurant. Due to the occasion, I'd like to do it somewhere near downtown LA or Silverlake area or even on the west side so we can easily transition to barhopping after dinner. If you know of any good steak restaurants near fun barhopping neighborhood that'd be great too.

  1. For German food near downtown its going to be Red Lion Tavern. Then you could transition to places like the Edison or Varnish or Seven Grand.

    The Edison
    108 W 2nd St Apt 104, Los Angeles, CA 90012

    The Varnish

    1. re: Servorg

I endorse this plan. However, I would modify the criteria slightly and go to Wurstkuche instead of Red Lion, because the food, not to mention the beer selection, is much superior.

    2. Old school German food tended to be very meat centric. Animal is also a meat centric restaurant. Just declare Animal a honorary German restaurant for a night. And there are also some nice bars close by, e.g. Tar Pit, Roger Room etc.
Being German the only decent German restaurant I have found so far anywhere in Southern California is Brummis in Santa Barbara. Tried a few restaurants in LA but forgot even their names since they were very disappointing and just served mediocre tourist dishes.
