BBQ Pulled Pork Parfait - Royal Winter Fair 2010
i had the parfait at the fair on thursday
we got to talk to the 'chef' running the booth and got to see him 'pull' some pork
he is from maple, on and hopes to open a restaurant soon
he makes his own sauce and spice mix
the pork is smoked for 10hours
there was an article in the toronto star on wednesday
the flavour combo was delightful and the line not as long as 'deep fried butter' at the ex
the mash could use some improvement, but the pork and sauce and bean topper were yum!
the portion is smaller, but let it rest and you will feel the full effect in your belly
my mouth is watering...may need to go back and get one to go!!
I saw the thing in the paper today and it looks delicious, I definetely want to try it but unfortunately I wont likely be attending the fair. I think the price is a bit much at $7, Id like to see it at $5 and Id be happy. Its a shame if the mashed potatoes arent that good, but its not hard to make a nice roasted garlic mash or something else thats better.
I also had it at the fair and thought that it was great (with the possible exception of the mashed potatoes as you mention...they weren't bad, just nothing special). I also thought that it might not be enough food, but when I got to the extra pocket of pulled pork at the bottom I couldn't finish. My only complaint was that it should have more beans (mine had hardly any).
Interesting dish, though, and the pork was great. Definitely one of the more interesting dishes in the food court (except for that german food-in-a-bag place...what was up with that?).
