Benihana at Royal York, worth it? (featured on Wagjag today)

Anyone been to Benihana lately? I see it got positive reviews from one poster with regards to how they handled a glutten alergy but I haven't seen any other mention on these forums with regards to it. It is featured on Wagjag today (and for a few days) with a $29 for $60 worth of food deal.

  1. No feedback on this place? Voucher still on sale until end of today (Sunday)...

I guess the place isn't all that impressive to see no comments/reviews really at all on it here.

It's a tourist thing. You're paying for the theatrics, not the food.

A bygone enthusiasm on par with Trader Vic's(cue waterfall audio FX...).

    2. Wildly overpriced for very plain food. The only moment of joy was the 'onion volcano' but still not worth the very hefty tab.

And you can get onion volcano treatment at pretty much any Teppanyaki restaurant you'll come acrosss, right? I suspect it's the first trick these chefs are taught!

      2. If you want better teppanyaki, maybe someday Akasaka in Richmond Hill will have a Wagjag or Groupon deal... Ten-Ichi in Scarborough also offers teppanyaki on an AYCE basis....

As for Benihana, went once years ago and found it only slightly better than the bottom-of-the-barrel guys on Don Mills (Memories of Japan and Tako Sushi). $29 for $60 at least brings the price down to about what you'd pay on Don Mills....
