Suggestions Pls! Father's Bday this wkend, where to go????
Hi All!
We are a former NYC family living in CT, but want to go into NYC for our father's birthday this wkend (Sunday if possible). There will be 5 of us, including one 15 yr-old who does not eat seafood and likes mostly chicken lol....I am a pretty adventurous eater, and my parents are open as well, (with Asian food being a favorite) but it's gotta be good. We are open to most anything except Indian as my mother doesn't like it. Our budget is $100 per person. My mother wants to go to the Post House, but they go there regularly and I kinda want something different. We used to go to Mr. Chow's years ago but that's out as the reviews don't appeal :)
Please help, any recs are greatly appreciated!

Convivo is a fun place that serves outstanding Italian on the East Side near the UN. They have a 4 course $62.00 prix fixe but you could order ala carte for less than $100.00 easily. Felidia does not get a lot of positive reviews here but I think it's a great restaurant. I really like the atmosphere. But the food is fine also.

Thanks both of you for those! I just checked out Convivio, looks promising! Can I ask why most ppl don't like Felidia? Never been there, is it just an issue with food quality or something else not up to par?

Have never been to Felidia so can't answer your question, but would like to add that, if I'm not mistaken, the 4 course prix fixe at Convivio allows you to choose anything from their à la carte menu: one app, one primi, one secondi, one dessert. In other words, they haven't limited your choices to just a few possibilities, which is the case for many other prix fixe menus.

re: boredough
While I know people who seem to love Felidia, I've found it unnecessarily pretentious. I've often wondered if the service attitude would bother me as much if were a french restaurant. There's just something about the experience that I don't enjoy - therefore I go only when it's with friends who choose it - and are paying.
