Ridiculous Donuts

Nolita Nov 11, 2010 04:45 PM

Are there any places in LA/OC where you can get ridiculous donuts like the ones at VooDoo Donuts in Portland?

The Donut Man has ridiculously good donuts. After a ridiculously long drive from West LA.

Stab's Doughnuts are pretty amazing and his peanut butter varieties? Awesome.

Plus, what about the donut man in Glendora?

Stan has been doing redunkulous donuts for 30+ years. Reese's Donut, strawberry & cream cheese.

Some of Stan's wonderful combinations include Reese's Peanut Butter Pocket , Peanut Butter and Fresh Banana (with Chocolate Chips) and the Peanut Butter and Jelly. They are all really good.

What's so ridiculous about the donuts at VooDoo?

I watched the episode from Man v. Food where he was up in Portland and visited the shop, and the only thing really unusual was probably the shapes of the donuts (e.g. rolled blunt, voodoo doll, etc.). Most of the flavor combos are pretty common these days. Unless you are really into cereal garnish with your donuts, you can replicate alot of the flavors at Stan's Donuts, Nickel Diner, etc.

The Nickel Diner downtown is well-known for its bacon donut. It's quite good.

FWIW, I thought Voodoo donuts were pretty blah. They just tasted like sweet. The only memorable thing about the place is the line.

I just went to their website. It looks like a place I would definitely want to try. Thanks for the recommendation. It definitely looks more interesting than VooDoo's bacon donut, which appears to just be strips of bacon on a maple bar.
