NDG Sugar High
Tonight, the husband was grumpy and stressed out, so I figured a little sugar therapy might help.
First I stopped at Petits Gâteaux Boutique Cupcakes on Monkland Ave. and picked up two cupcakes. I was a bit nervous because, frankly I hate nearby Cho'cola's oversweet confections. At Petits Gâteaux, I picked out a chocolate marshmallow cupcake, and a banana cake - sucre à la crème cupcake. They are 3$ each. The counter had lot of other choices, all appealing but somehow I zeroed in on those. Also some Yin Ming tea from the Amour des Thés selection on offer there.
Next, I hopped across the street to Confection Sparkles for various black licorice candies (because he loves 'em) and caramels (cuz I loves 'em). I left with an assortment of each, plus some Zagnut bars, some saltwater taffy, Jelly Tots (yes! Jelly Tots!), and various jellies... btw the British Cadburies have also arrived. There was much excitement in the store when I arrived.
Anyway, Petits Gâteaux cupcakes rocked: lovely flavours, moist cake, delish toppings, and first and foremost NOT TOO SWEET.
Also, the chile and pecan caramels (DAS brand) from Sprinkles were perfect: sweet, chewy and SPICY. Also the Walkers’ Nonsuch Liquorice Toffee was hard to hack into bits, but delightfully chewy and ever so tasty (and I don't even like black licorice).
So if you have a sweet tooth and find yourself in NDG, Monkland's the place to be.

I love Sparkles. And are you kidding me ? Jelly tots??? I forgot all about Jelly tots. I am going there tomorrow for sure.
I also love black licorice and they have a great selection. I was also very impressed that they had salted licorice - something a Swedish friend of mine had been hankering for and thought she would never find here. Although I love black licorice and adore sweet/salty/savoury combinations, I just couldn't finish one of the salted licorices.
Jelly tots, here I come. Snowpea, you didn't buy them all, did you?????????????
