Can anyone suggest a decent place in Milton for a casual meal that also has a bar?

Another place to consider is 88 Wharf. It has a nice location, but some very good values on "social hour" snacks and $12 burger fare. I've only been there for a more up-scale fundraiser, but it is nice to have some Milton options, something recent in these parts.

The Ashmont Grill is nearby in Dorchester and seems to fit what you are looking for.

Not in Milton, but a short drive down to Marina Bay in Quincy, we have been enjoying the new Port 305 recently. We have found it to be our new favorite restaurant locally. We have been for both lunch and dinner. The sandwiches are good, flat bread pizzas (in particular the sausage and roasted pepper flat bread) are excellent. The hummus appetizer platter is spectacular as is the lobster mac & cheese. My favorite meal was a special--chicken pot pie. A close second in preference only to Harrows.

Not really casual in the sense that you could kick back, but Granite Links has The Tavern---which has a decent bar and good pizza. Service can be iffy though.

I'd only do Granite Links for a beer and the view. Food is pretty unspectacular.

Better than the Villa Rosa (sorry to offend any longtime fans)---also not technically in Milton. Pretty close though.

Anything is better than the Villa Rosa. I would chose canibalism over eating at the Villa Rosa.

As much as your comment made me laugh, it's true.

                    I just peed myself, thanks.

Granite Links bar food is ok, their dining room food not so much.

Ledge can be inconsistent. Abby Park is good.

Just up Dot Ave @Ashmont you have my current fave, Tavalo

Ick, Villa Rosa is in the same bucket as Cathay Pacific. Why, why, why??

Oh, and not in Milton but a hop, skip and a jump over in Quincy is Basta Pasta Enoteca, though I can't remember if they have a bar.

Basta Pasta has a bar but very inconsistent hours. I remember being really annoyed when their website said they were open for lunch on Saturday, only to pull into the parking lot and find it closed. Seems like everyone is on the same page with their opinions on Villa Rosa, and Cathy Pathetic what can I say.

The Ledge and Abby Park are great recommendations. On the Quincy/East Milton line there is also Cafe deParis which is in the same category as the other two but has better prices.

I like Abby Park, right in East Milton Sq. Good bar service and food. Good deals too-check out their website for details.

Right near the Milton line, The Ledge in Lower Mills (Dorchester) has good food and both an indoor and outdoor bar (I'm thinking the outdoor one is closed for the season).
