Mendoza Wineries: how far in advance for reservations?
We are going to be in Mendoza for a week over Christmas and are big Malbec lovers. We want to visit wineries in the region and have a few meals there as well. Do we need ot reserve for wine tastings and meals before we leave - or can we arrange everything when we arrive in Mendoza?
If you go with a guide, they should take care of all of that for you. Most of the wineries will take a reservation a day or two ahead. Are you driving yourselves? Do you know which wineries you'd like to visit? I would suggest as much planning ahead as you can, it's definitely not a Napa style situation where you can pull up, park, or walk or even bike ride, have a sample and move on. They want more of a tour and tasting, expect to do no more than 4 in a day. Also, larger wineries will fill up tours fast, so the earlier the better on reserving.
Hope that helps!
re: Rebecca Caro
Thanks Rebecca. We are thinking of hiring a car and driver. The wine tours seem very expensive, and we'll have our 8 year old daughter with us so we want to do several half-day trips instead of long, full-days where she'll get bored (need to set aside some horseback riding and pool time for her!).
We would like to visit Maipu and Valle de Uco, and we do have some wineries in mind (Andeluna, Familia Zuccardi, Salentein), but would also like to visit some of the smaller wines that we don't get here. I've read that Ruca Malen is a great place to have lunch.
Any and all recommendations are greatly appreciated!
