Any good ramen to be found in Charlotte?

lynnlato Nov 7, 2010 02:19 PM

I was just reading this Chow story about ramen and "neo-ramen" and it got me wondering about what we might have here in CLT. I've had good ramen in NYC but never even thought about it here. Any suggestions? If not in Charlotte, where in NC?

Here is a link to the piece I read: http://www.chow.com/food-news/61894/r...

Rusan's has big bowls of soup with Udon, Soba or Ramen noodles. Some of the choices are pretty interesting.

The Rusans here in CLT in that little shopping center on Park Rd (or was it Scott) or the link on your post? I haven't been there in years, but thought it was mostly a sushi kind of place.

It's the shopping center on Park Rd. The same center the as Fiamma. Rusan's is on the far left. At lunch time they are crowded with folks eating the sushi buffet. Not the finest sushi, but being able to eat your weight in bait for under $10 is a great deal. I usually do the buffet once a week. The noodle soups are on the regular menu which is available at lunch time. Dinner is a bit more mellow vibe.

Mai at Colony Place has awesome ramen. I'd love to know what both of you think of Mai. Love their sushi and all of their noodle dishes.

Used to really dig the original location on South Blvd, I did not like the location in Ardsley. Have not been to Colony Place location..
Reflecting on the Ramen issue I must confess I would be inclined to head to Pho Hoa or Saigon Palace and have Pho. The broth is a hard act to follow.

I was thinking the same thing (Pho Hoa). But I can walk to Mai so we go quite a bit.

I've been to Musashi twice when I visited Charlotte, and was satisfied with it. The owner was likely Japanese, and the flavor was not comprised. I wouldn't say it's purely authentic, yet it didn't comprise too much. Would love to know other ramen place in CLT or Chapel Hill though.

Musashi is my favorite Japanese restaurant in Charlotte. Top quality sushi and I love the bento boxes also the Katsudon -.a bowl of rice topped with a deep-fried pork cutlet and egg,
