Larent Gras Taking Leave of Absence from L2O

Too bad. I hope he returns. I've liked his cooking since he was at The Fifth Floor in SF.

Wow that is really too bad. I wrote in another thread that I was looking for a place to eat on Dec. 29 or 30 and L2O was a possibility. Though I am sure the current team are more than capable, losing Chef Gras is still a huge loss.

Looks like he's back to New York and leaving for good.

re: chicgail
Well apparently the financial partner (Lettuce Entertain You) wanted to introduce a new shabu-shabu recipe, but LG doesn't want to change the existing recipe. Maybe that was only part of the story, but his refusal to change anything was what allegedly caused the breakup. LG told reporter on his end that LEY was trying to change the restaurant into something contrary to his vision, hence the departure.
It seems that it was a case of either: (1) a really head-strong chef who wanted the financial partner to stay out of the kitchen; or (2) a foodie restauranteur was offended when he wasn't allowed to have input in the menu; or a little bit of both.

re: Db Cooper
If I remember correctly he left The Fifth Floor for NYC but that deal fell through so he ended up in Chicago. Obviously, w/LEY group. The timing of his announcing he was leaving permanently was interesting as it wasn't until L2O was awarded 3 stars. Shortly before that announcement he said he was taking a "leave of absence".
