North Brunswick - Seeking Recommendation for a Casual Place for Sunday Lunch

Forklaw Nov 5, 2010 06:12 PM

Meeting father-in-law and son in North Brunswick next week for a Sunday afternoon movie and we need a place in immediate vicinity (Route 1 or nearby) for a very casual lunch. If necessary, we'll do a diner (how is the Omega diner on Route 1?) but I'd preferred something just a bit nicer. Saw recs for Buffet Europa on this board which looked interesting but the last comments were that the place was sold. Their website is down and no one answered the phone so looks like that is not an option. Thanks.

I like the Omega diner, as far as diners go. When I was living in the area, we used to frequent there a lot for weekend brunch.

Rafferty's in New Brunswick does a brunch, I believe, but it's been a few years since I've been to the brunch. But I do lunch and dinner there a lot still, and it's been pretty consistently good.

If you're willing to travel a bit North, I love doing brunch at Le Peep. (Wick shopping plaza in Edison on Route 1)

Mickeygee - Thanks for the reply and I'll have to check out Le Peep for another time; for this Sunday I'm looking more for a regular lunch than a brunch, and it needs to be in North Brunswick or very close on Route 1. Looks like it'll be the Omega Diner unless another CH can suggest a good alternative meeting these criteria.

You could try the Skylark Diner which is a slightly different take on the regular diners in NJ as they offer more than the standard fare and they have a full service bar/lounge. There's also Moe's Southwest Grill which is pretty good and is in the same shopping center as the movie theater (I'm assuming you're going to the Regal).

I'd go with Skylark. They're trying to do something interesting and innovative without breaking the bank, which is a rarity in Central Jersey.

Looks interesting. Will give Skylark a try.
