Rice on La Cienega - inexpensive, and not too shabby for delivery :)

Remember that all the places below are distinctly American Chinese... lots of sweet, gloppy sauces.

Why Taster, you say that like it's a bad thing ;)

No, so so true - to my knowledge, there are no authentic Chinese haunts in the "Grove" hood. It's Americanized-central in those parts, as a rule.

I'm Chinese and would never have ordered from a place called Wok on Fire if my boyfriend hadn't made me try it. It's the best "Chimerican" food we've had in the area. I love the Mapo Tofu, and they make a pretty good Kung Pao.

I've recently discovered Mao's Kitchen on Melrose...it's the best in the area by far, and has many options. I've had some problems- no lettuce for the lettuce cups, forgetting rice, chicken instead of beef- but they are nice when you confront them and the food is good! I think they are working out kinks, but now it's where I order from ...

There is a place on Detroit/3rd called Chuyn King (sp?). Their menu is hit or miss (dont get the curry or pad thai or anything else that isn't chinese). They make really good pan fried noodles, sweet and sour soup, chicken with spinich, garlic spinich, and kung pao chicken. They are also health conscious.
