Old School Chinese on Long Island?
I'm looking for the name of an old school Chinese restaurant on Long Island, maybe in the Five Towns area. It is (or was) the kind of joint that served chop suey, chow mein and egg fu yung. It was famous because it had the names of the Jewish families who were regulars engraved on little plaques on their favorite booths. Please help!
Was this the Polynesian-decorated place in the same shopping center as Foodtown? I can't remember the name of that one either, but I remember going there as a kid. There was also a Carvel and Army-Navy store in the shopping center if I remember correctly.
Other than that the only one I remember is House of Chang which was near Green Acres Mall.
Not sure if this is helpful... but your post brought back memories!
There is a definitely old school Chinese restaurant in the shopping center at the intersection of Woodbury Rd and South Oyster Bay Rd in Plainview. Don't ask me how good it is.
In the 5-towns area, the only two decent old school Chinese can be had at So Far So Good,in Lynbrook,or the Palace of Wong,In Rockville Centre. For the best,go to the Orient,in Bethpage.
I think you're talking about the Palace of Wong (Cameron mentioned it). It's at 348 Sunrise Highway in Rockville Center, right outside of the main village. It looks crazy old fashioned with neon letters and a cocktail lounge sign.

For old school classic Cantonese food, we like Kwong Ming in Wantagh. Real old time Chinese-American food.
