Good food in or near Jantzen Beach?

I'm here for a conference at the Red Lion in Jantzen Beach. I usually stay downtown and know lots of great places there. This morning we went to Kenny and Zuke's for breakfast - incredible pastrami hash and eggs! But is there anything good for dinner in or near Jantzen Beach? I like wine with dinner and don't want to be driving very far after having had some. So far, all I've seen around here is fast food places. Any thoughts?

  1. I don't know of a lot that's really close, but Firehouse is not that far away, and is a great Italian place in a beautiful old brick firehouse. DiPrima Dolci is not too far away, but it might only be breakfast and lunch (and really good cannoli). I know there's plenty of non-Italian places, too, but I can't think of them right now!

Firehouse Restaurant is a great rec. It isn't that far and the food and wine are great there. Matthew Busetto (chef/owner) is a helluva nice guy too.

It's less than 4 miles, should take maybe 10 minutes, The Librarian.

    2. Another option is to go the other direction to Vancouver. La Bottega Cafe Deli & Wine Shop is probably as close as N Portland and is quite good. If you need to stay in Jantzen Beach, Stanfords is probably your best option.

      1. There are a bunch of restaurants in Kenton, NoPo: Po'Shines Soul Food, Pizza Fino, a Thai place. A cab shouldn't cost that much.

        1. We're going to try Firehouse tonight. I'll report back!

          1. We loved Firehouse! It was a short drive from the hotel, and the building is beautiful inside and out. Noisy, but in an energetic way. Great mix of families, couples, etc. Prices ridiculously reasonable, especially for the quality. Interesting wine list - not the usual suspects. I had the fried cauliflower which came with a lemon creme fraiche dipping sauce, and the pizza bianco with anchovies and grilled radicchio. My husband had the Caesar-type salad and the meatballs. All were excellent. Service was efficient and friendly. If I lived near, I would definitely be a regular. Thanks for your recommendations. Thank goodness for Chowhounders!
