Roasted chestnuts - where to find - David Chang thanksgiving recipe

I'm excited to try David Chang's short rib thanksgiving recipe from New York Magazine. (http://nymag.com/listings/recipe/soy-...

)

In it, he calls for 1 cup of cleaned, roasted chestnuts.

What's the best way to purchase those? From a street vendor? Would ideally like to skip roasting them myself, if possible...

Thanks for your help!

    Kalustyan's appeared to be having some sort of special this week. They are vacuum packed.

      Most of the higher-end markets carry roasted and shelled chestnuts in jars. Citarella, Manhattan Fruit Exchange and Kalustyans definitely carry them. For the best price, I usually buy my jarred chestnuts from Sahadis in Bklyn.

        You can find them in Associated supermarkets and probably many other supermarkets.

          Saw them in a jar at D'Agostino yesterday--$14.99 or so..seems high..

        I would probably start with the street vendors but if you have access to a Asian grocery you can also find pre cooked and shelled whole chestnuts in sealed bags. I keep a couple in the pantry just for stuffing or a snack.
