Did a Restaurant Replace Wiener Factory?

reality check Nov 4, 2010 11:37 PM

I know that Pinkberry was suppose to replace Wiener Factory, but I don't believe that ever happened.

Did another restaurant replace Wiener Factory? Maybe they'll even make a comeback.

The construction is pretty much finished on the outside but they're still working on the interior. It's going to be some sort of vaguely middle eastern cafe.

So, did they tear down and build new? Or did they just renovate the WF building?

I drive by it everyday so I've had the opportunity to watch. They seemed to tear it down in a single day, but then they reframed on what appeared to be the same footprint. They then added what looks to be an enclosed patio area adjacent. The whole architectural style is very dark and uninviting. We'll see.

RC, they tore down the old building completely and built new. To me, it looks really unappealing from the outside, really dark with no windows....looks more like a fortress than a restaurant.

And, I'm with you (I'm sure along with SIMIHOUND and others) that would love nothing better than for WF to make a comeback. But, it's now been almost three years since WF passed on and I'd imagine that at this point Kevin and Sher have given up on ever re-opening, if in fact they ever did entertain such thoughts.

Does anyone have any further info on WF, Kevin/Sher?

Fabs is an OK replacement, as is the Infield in Sherman Oaks, but both are still a far inferior replacement for WF.

Yes, I remember reading in the Daily News, they were resigned to closing down WF and not reopening. I also enjoyed Rubin's Red Hot and that too has closed and I believe torn down.

Actually, Rubin's has not been torn down. It stands like the day it closed, surrounded by a chain link fence but the furniture and coke machines are still there.

Fabs serves the identical spicy polish that WH did and from the same supplier.

And also the mild Polish, which was my favorite at WF, and is my favorite at Fab's.

I did some searching around, on another food review site and found this:

                Vibe Cafe
                14919 Ventura Blvd
                Sherman Oaks, CA 91403
                (818) 501-2700

Now, WF's address was 14917 Ventura, so it's safe to assume, what was once WF, has now been replaced by Vibe Cafe.

Interesting that the other food review site, still has reviews and pic of WF.

Have driven by over the past few month and the Vibe Cafe looks like a "No-Vibe Cafe". Unfortunately, it looks dark and dreary and feels disconnected from the area. Belongs more in a dark corner of downtown LA, than the former spot of Weiner Factory. We'll see how long this place makes a go of it once it opens.

I haven't been to the new place, but it is a middle eastern cafe and hookah bar called Vibe Cafe. Here's their website: http://www.vibecafeonline.com/index.html
