Banh Mi Vietnamese Subs in Orlando

pdpredtide Nov 4, 2010 08:41 PM

The Orlando Weekly recently did a cover page spread about Banh Mi Vietnamese sub sandwiches in Orlando, they listed the top banh mi joints. (I was graciously invited to attend in the unscientific judging lol) here is the article

What do you think of their list?

My top list was
1. Boston Bakery - both the meat, vegetable filling and the bread were above par
2. Banh Mi Nha Trang
3. Phuoc Loc Tho Supermarket

Congratulations on taking part in the judging! I definitely need to try Boston Bakery and Nha Trang. What do you recommend from them? Phuoc Loc Tho is my standard banh mi destination, but I've always thought Ba Le on Mills was better than them, with more varieties.

the typical banh mi dac biet (special combo deli meat) is always good. i think at nha trang its called the banh mi nha trang special. another good one is the banh mi cha lua (pork roll)

I went to Boston Bakery today! I got the Combo Deli Meat sub, and the guy was a little skeptical at first. He asked me if I would eat pate (LOVE IT!) and head cheese (YUUUP!). I told him I read the article and wanted to try the best banh mi in town, and he warned me that some Americans don't like that kind of stuff. :)

I asked what the second-best sub was, and he said the Chicken was good, so I got one of those too, for later. The combo was delicious, by the way. Better, fresher bread than Phuoc Loc Tho usually has, although I might have preferred slightly more vegetables.

I tried Nha Trang the other day. Having the banh me toasted was nice, and I was impressed with the packaging with paper, plastic bag, and rubber band combination to hold the sandwich together and collect the juices. All baguette shaped sandwiches should be packed this way!

I went to Boston Bakery over the weekend, and I think I like the one from Ba Le better. I prefer Sriracha on mine rather then sliced jalepenos, but that wasn't the difference. I think the bread was better at Ba Le.

I'm definitely working my way through that list though...
