Lee's Hawaiian Islander in Lyndhurst

  • 7

Anyone been lately? I remember going about 5 years ago on a lark and being somewhat surprised that the food was not horrible. The place is a real trip. I thought maybe it might be time to go again. Anyone?

Is this the old Jade Fountain from 20+ years ago? That was a great place, awesome buffet.

No, jethro. The Jade Fountain was in North Arlington on Ridge Road. I loved that place. A real throwback to old-school Chinese. My friends and I actually spent a New Year's Eve there once (we were not the most exciting bunch growing up). I remember one of my friends not liking Chinese food and ordering veal instead!

Lee's is in Lyndhurst on Stuyvesant Avenue. You can't miss it. Here's a pic.

Tapas52: "Enjoyable" is a relative term. If you find old-school kitsch enjoyable and are willing to overlook the rundown appearance of the place, then it's enjoyable. Keep in mind my family and I went a few years back just to experience the kitsch and have a laugh. Anything good about the plus was just icing on the cake. :)

      3. My high school girlfriend lived down the street from this place and I've ALWAYS wondered what this place was like but never made it there...maybe I should give it a try. :)

        1. Would be interested to hear how this place is holding up these days. It's long been a favorite of my parents and my mother's family (all from Passaic).

We all ate there when I made the trip back home from here in Oregon for a visit two years ago, but I'll be damned if I can remember anything about the meal. Trying really hard to remember how the food was, but I'm coming up blank at the moment.

I know I enjoyed a couple beers at the little bar in front and watched a Mets game with the bartender after we ate and while the kids played outside. Ah, Mets games and beer... ;)

I live a few miles down the road from Lee's. I haven't been there in years. I've heard mixed reviews about the food and have heard the decor is very tired looking. They have Kareoki on Friday and Saturday nights and heard that it is funny to hear the Chinese waiters sing.

I think I am going to have to go there for a meal, just to see what it is like these days.

My favorite Chinese/Polynesian restaurants is Lun Wah in Roselle. Great food, great service and the decor is just adorable. It is worth the drive from my home town of Kearny for the dining experience.
