Cheap/healthy eats near Society Hill Playhouse

I'm new to Philadelphia, will be around Society Hill Playhouse area this evening, looking for something reasonably healthy (not necessarily vegetarian though) for $10-$15. Good sandwiches, salads, soup, something sort of quick as we have an event to go to.

  1. I wouldn't normally recommend eating there, but the food bar at the Whole Foods at 10th and South may be just right for you, it's very close, self-serve so it's fast, and there are vegetarian and vegan options if you want them.

If you don't mind walking a little further, Paesano's (sandwiches), Alyan's (Middle Eastern) and the Famous 4th St. Deli are pretty close by. Paesano's closes at 7 though, and healthy options are limited, although they have a couple fantastic veggie sandwiches. Famous 4th is famous partly for their huge portions but if you're with another person or three you can split things.

I love Paesano's, but I don't think I'd recommend it as healthy. Vegetarian does not necessarily equal healthy.

    2. Good suggestions. You might also want to try the new vegan Blackbird Pizzeria on 6th St, (I haven't been there yet but it's getting a lot of love) or Maru Global on 10th St, Neither are "health food," but are cheap and you can eat light. At Maru you could get salads and share an order of takoyaki.

I agree that Paesano's is not health food either, but the veggie sandwich is pretty awesome and if you get soups and split the sandwich, it's cheap, pretty light, and a delicious meal.
