St Pete Beach next week.

Looking for restaurants and beach front cafes near the Beachcomber hotel on St. Pete Beach. Saw recommended the Palm Court at Trade Winds, Beverly's for breakfast, Paradise Grille's second location is near? and Cafe Luna. The Wharf is a taxi drive but looks like the kind of place we like.
Any suggestions are most welcome!

  1. Within walking distance of the Beachcomber, we really like Dockside Dave's (excellent grouper sandwiches!), Wildwood Barbecue, Agave (for Mexican and superb margaritas), and the Frog Pond (for breakfast).

Second Beverly's, Cafe Luna, and Paradise Grille (for a casual beachside lunch). The Wharf is worth the taxi ride. Sea Critters, next door to the Wharf, is as good or better. Pick 'em...lol

Oh, and the Paradise Grille is nearby - it's quicker to walk up the Beach than to walk along the road.

We haven't had much luck at the Palm Court :(

Wow.....DOCKSIDE DAVE'S, is supposed to be a "Local Secret"....lol..... The owner is a fanatic about ONLY using local Gulf Grouper, No Asian imported fish here. The Grouper sandwich is the best anywhere and the view of the Bay "Ain't " bad either!!!!!!

    2. I would recommend breakfast at the Frog Pond (there's one on St. Pete Beach and another on North Redington Beach). I don't get to St. Pete Beach that often, but you shouldn't feel limited to restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. There's a super-cheap beach trolley ($4.00 per day for an unlimited ride pass) that runs every 20-30 minutes from around 5AM to 10PM daily from the south Pinellas Beaches to Clearwater Beach. North of you, there's a Columbia restaurant on Sand Key with a beautiful intracoastal water view; Salt Rock Grill on Indian Shores for high-end steaks and seafood with an intracoastal view; Guppy's on Indian Rocks Beach for kicked up "casual" seafood; Keegan's on Indian Rocks Beach for better-and-more-creative-than-average "cheap" seafood (was featured on Diner's, Drive-in's and Dives a few years ago).

Dockside Dave's doesn't float my boat (nor does anything else in John's Pass...just say "no" to Bubba Gump)...but a lot of people love it, so it might just be a personal taste thing.

Oh, and while there are precious few actual beachfront restaurants still remaining...if you take the trolley to Clearwater Beach, you will find a popular specimen in the form of Frenchy's Rockaway Grill. No one's reinventing the culinary wheel here, but it's smack-dab on a wide, white sandy beach with outdoor seating available and the food is respectable bar-style seafood.

I agree about John's Pass Village, with one exception - Walt'z Fish Shack. It has some of the freshest fish you'll find at the beach and excellent boiled shrimp. Definitely worth checking out, but get there before they run out of fish.

We just got back. Great dinners to report. First night Palm Court at Tradewinds right next to the Sirata where we stayed. Dinner for 12. Each one including wine, appetizer and desert was just excellent. Next night 16 of us at Patrick's Bayside Grill just across Gulf Boulevard from the Sirata was equally as amazing if not better. A member of our group had been twice before on recent trips. Small kitchen, large menu, great specials. Lobster, steaks, lamb, sea food, deserts all perfection....highly recommended. Friday night went to a joint called Twisted Tarpon that used to be Philthy Phill's. We didn't know this until we arrived. The PP menu was better , but the offerings were good. Lots of seafood platters, also ribs and some fresh fish. Last night at Gigi's an old family Italian restaurant just down Gulf Boulvard. It was very good. Homemade pasta and great pizza. We had breakfast out at some of the places.....nothing exceptional to report. My best recommendation is for Patrick's Bayside Grill. You will be very happy you went.

        2. What about Snapper'sSea Grill at 5895 Gulf Blvd. I haven't been there personally, but I've heard good things about this place in the past. Has anyone been there that can comment on whether this close (to the hotel mentioned) restaurant is worth going to?

This is just great information! Thanks so much for the restaurant recommendations and the trolley schedule.

Snapper's Sea Grill is wonderful, one of the best restaurants in SPB! It is well worth a visit. We just enjoyed a lovely meal there last week. I loved the coconut-cashew crusted mahi mahi, and my husband raved about his rib-eye. The potatoes in pastry are delicious!

Thanks for mentioning this place, kempshark. I don't know why I didn't think of it initially.

            2. Skidders in St Petes Beach is a diner style place that does good breakfasts & lunches.

It is across the street from the Tradewinds Sandpiper hotel.
