How is Upperline doing?

I read somewhere (this board?) that Upperline's chef left. True? And if so, has there been any drop-off in quality? All comments welcomed!

  1. Ken Smith did leave and Nathan Winowich took over.
I've yet to read any reports on how WInowich is doing...looking forward to replies.

Anderson mentioned him in chefs watch.

    2. Just went last week. Had a really wonderful meal. They did their whole menu over as a Reveillon menu and it was fantastic. We really liked that rather than making the Rev. menu a cheaper, small version (ie, a "just for the cheap ppl") menu they filled it with choices and it included every great dish they had. I totally recommend going.

        Far preferred Upperline to Brigtsen's.

between your comments re Mimi's and now this utterly nonsensical preference, I can see we have vastly different palates

That's why there's Coke and Pepsi.

Upperline v. Brigtsen's: did not know any such rivalry existed. Acme v. Felix, sure. Cafe du Monde v. Morning Call. One side of the Brennan family v. the other. But I can't quite see JoAnn Clevenger and Frank Brigtsen putting on the boxing gloves. I love 'em both by the way.

how can you say someone's subjective flavor preference is nonsensical seemingly only because it differs than your own? that isnt what this board is about.

i, too, prefer Upperline to Brightsen's.

This is good news. My two quiet, out-of-the-way places I have loved during trips to NOLA were Upperline and Feelings. I am back in a few months and will stop by Upperline.

Agreed that this is good news.

Upperline (with Brigtsen's and Cochon) has, after only one visit, charmed us into becoming one of our "not to be missed" destinations when in New Orleans.

The food was great; Ms. JoAnn was so charming and seemed to know about us ChowHounds when she asked about how we heard about Upperline.

I think I'll go on Expedia and see if there are any bargain flights to NOLA...away from this 5-degree Wisconsin weather!
