New Years Eve - DC

We are thinking about visiting DC/VA area for New Years Eve from Phila. We are looking for a place with good food, great atmosphere, mid 30's - mid 40's crowd. We are big on seafood, but will eat meat...chicken, filet, pork. (One person has garlic allergy and we are not interested in Indian, Middle Eastern Food). Price not an issue. Any suggestions welcome! There are three of us. Thanks.

Brasserie Beck might be a fun place for New Years Eve. The seafood lovers can get mussels and frites or one of the fish specials. There is also a number of meat options and a great beer list. It can get loud and boisterous---but it's New Years! For a quieter table, ask for a table towards the back.

Another option for amazing seafood is Black Salt. It's not metro accessible so if you have a car or are willing to take a cab, that's the best way to get there. I ate there with my parents this past Spring and it was everyone's favorite meal of the weekend (filled with lots of impressive restaurants).

We have eaten at Brasserie Beck and Black Salt. (I like your taste in restaurants)a couple of times and enjoyed both. I have emailed them for their menu.

Some other places on my list are:
Bourbon Steak, Cafe Milano, Bibiana, Cafe Atlantico, Vidalia, Central, The Source, etc.

Our tentative plan for the evening is to have a early dinner and then find a place with a great bar scene and ring the New Year in there. We like the bar at Bourbon Steak, but their menu this year is basic for the first seating, but we know the food is good. We also meet interesting people at their bar and Cafe Milano's bar.

My partner and I are visiting a friend in Old Town and from her house we are taking a cab into the District.

Out of the places you have listed I would most definitly choose Bibiana or Central---2 of my favorite restaurants in DC. Central is an easy walk to all the bars in Gallery Place/Chinatown so that might work with your plan. Bibiana is right near Againn which has a cool bar scene (and also a place you might consider for dinner). It's also by Metro Center so you can pretty much go anywhere after dinner.

Cafe Atlantico is also very good and lots of fun. A very festive environment with many seafood options. Again---near Gallery Place/Chinatown with lots of bar options.

Thanks... we had a great dinner at Bibiana over the summer... Againn is also on my list for dinner and possibly New Years Eve!

Be inquisitive once you've narrowed down your list of places. Some restaurants have a fixed price menu on NYE, which is sometimes (though not always) a shadow of their normal menu. Make sure you find out if the entire menu will be available, and if not, press to get an exact menu. Once, we were disappointed to arrive at a place which had said they would "probably" offer a regular menu to find a severely trimmed fixed price menu that just wasn't very interesting.

And by the way...we did Bistrot du Coin one year and while it's not a romantic or classy place, there were lots of folks in formal wear (and lots in jeans), and everyone was having fun.

We went to PS7 last year and had a great meal and cocktail pairing. It wasn't cheap but compared to the other options at similar level restaurants it was reasonable.
