Sosta: New pizza on Atlantic

Sosta opened last week at 145 Atlantic. I would rate the pizza as very good, with a lot of potential. The crust was delicious--very thin with a nice flavor. The pizza we got had mushrooms, sausage, tomato sauce and cheese. The sausage on the pie was tasty, the light tomato sauce slid off (a pet peeve) but was good. They offer a large selection of salads, pizzas and a special pasta. They gave us some rosemary pizza bread as a free appetizer that was great, and a glass of Italian white bubbly wine on the house. Right now, it is not as good as Lucalli's but could possibly rival Lucalli's. Give it a try!

  1. We went to this third iteration of the place last night. Each time the place is reworked the menu gets slimmed down. Its down to one page with apps and pizzas with some paninis for lunch. We had a caesar salad and a grilled veggie platter to platter to start. Salad was fine and the veggies were ok but there was a huge scoop of mashed potatoes in the middle of the plate that didn't really work. The grilled veggies from the last iteration were better. Ordered two pizzas. I agree that the crust is very nice. Didn't get any free wine offered so we ordered a bottle of a nera which was a special. Nice enough of a meal. The only hesitation I have about the place is that they have raised the prices without a corresponding increase in the level of the food. The 2 apps + 2 pizzas + bottle of wine was $90. Seemed high for the value. Maybe all the money goes into the decor. Much better looking place than what was there before.

    1. My husband and I are pizza fanatics. We have been to Sosta twice in the past month and we really like the pizza as well as the apps. The crust was nice and thin, a bit chewy yet crispy. There was also a nice char on my crust. The sauce was also how I like it-- not too sweet. There are some creative toppings, but we are genrally a fan of plain margaherita. We went back primarily for the pizza. My husband also ordered the special entre the second time (which they seem to have at least every weekend). He is usually not a fan of chicken, but he really liked the dish they had that night. He finished it as well as a salumi plate and some pizza. The food as well as the pizza is very good and so far, it's been consistent here. I wouldn't compare the pizza to Lucali's though because it's not that type of pizza (but I understand it's in the 'hood). If anything, it's more comparable to Roberta's. In addition to good food, the managers and wait staff are very nice people and the service is great. They know how to accomodate their customers. If you are in Brooklyn, and not just in the Heights area, you should go try.
