Restaurant around Geary & Market after First Thursday

My friend and I are going to check out a couple galleries for this week's First Thursday Art. Any suggestions for a place to grab a bite afterwards (probably around 7)? We went to Cafe Claude last time and loved it. I'm tempted to go back but do want to try something new. I've been to B44, Plouf and E&O so would not be interested in those either. Would prefer a recommendation for a restaurant within walking distance of Powell or Montgomery BART stations. Thanks!

I work right by there. The food is good but the vibe is a bit chilly. I was thinking of a place with more nooks and crannies.

Sam's Grill? Same as Tadich, pretty much, minus the tourists.

I've never even heard of that place. Will have to check it out soon.

Just walk up to the other end of Claude Lane to Gitane. It has the same ownership as Cafe Claude but a completely different menu and vibe.

The menu is more Mediterranean / North African. The decor is over the top and even if you just stop in for cocktails and an app you will enjoy quite the experience.

Oddly enough, the Chronicle published an article about Gitane yesterday. We went there last night after checking out various galleries in the area. The vibe was harem-den'ish and fun, but it was too hot in there! I can't believe they did not have AC. Needless to say, the last thing I wanted to eat was the lamb. My friend and I shared the sardinas (sardines), camarones (prawns), and bacalla negre (black cod). Yes, very seafoody choices...we just went with what sounded good. In retrospect, I wish we had ordered a salad or meat dish. The sardines were tasty but the hearts of palm tasted like apples. I wish the dish was more savory. The prawns were a bit mushy and the flavors in that dish were not particularly memorable. The black cod, which came on a bed of quinoa, was outstanding! The sauce was so tasty that I had to lick the spoon. I will go back for the cod but not the other two dishes...and also on a cooler night. Service was a bit slow but not unbearably so. Thanks for the suggestion!
