Casse-Croute La Vida Creole (on jarry and acadie area)

Another place I keep forgetting about to mention here.

Had a Griot ??? Grillot???? take out
Very tasty Haitian food. It's a very small joint no table counter only. Of all the places I tried this is the one I preferred so far. Verry good and tasty. The rice riz collay very good the sauce a tomato broth very tasty and the hot sauce excellent.

I tried another one on jarry east of metro jarry called meli melo it was okay
Meli-Melo Caraibe Enr, on 640 Rue Jarry E, Montreal

I had a terrible terrible experience at Ange Et Ricky - 195, rue Jarry E, Montreal
food wasn't well cooked. My meat was very tough for a stew.

In my book this is the greatest GRIOT dish in Montreal.
Hint I always ask Mme Monique for freshly fried griot. They are so crispy and tender inside. Her RIZ COLLÉ is also very good.

I'm always on the hunt for another place but this place has been my favorite experience so far.

Any suggestions for GRIOT on and around the island ?

It's a great cheap meal when on the road.

Great surprise and news. They have reopened after their fire. I was driving Jarry and noticed someone walking out of there. Hope it's the same lady cooking. She had a very good Griot and "Riz Collé". Looking forward to go back!

They are re-officially my favorite place for Griot. Especially when it was cooked fresh.

I asked for griot but she was out and told me she will make a fresh batch. Man it was heaven to take a bite on those pork bites. I already like her food but fresh like this was just amazing.

Also It was the first time that I had such a great and tasty "Bananes Pesées" (plantain).
It was moist inside and crispy outside but somehow the texture was so fun to bite into. Also it was cooked fresh.

Nothing like fresh food on order. After I was done, I told her she should always do it fresh on orer because it's amazing.

Thanks for the tip on Vida Creole, good stuff. Tasso(t) beef was perfect and fried on the spot. Griot would have been as good but she spooned me some from the steam tray as opposed to frying it right then but it was still fresh tasting. Rice was on par too. This place puts Ange Ricky place to shame I don't know how it is still opened, the last time I was there the dining are was a mess (do they run a daycare in there during the day) and she microwaved my order, horrible. Vida Creole was as good as my old spot in Roxboro that closed down. :(

Glad to hear you enjoyed it. And for 9$ Portions are huge. I love her style of riz collé "translated to sticky rice" I guess prounounced in french "ree colhay".

La Vida Creole sounds great. Is it a tiny place or do you think they'd have room for a table of 8? Thx.

Unfortunately It's a take out place no table there. Only a counter that can fit 3-4 people. Tip: I always ask for freshly made to order griot. I never went there at supper hour always in the afternoon or after 7h30pm so I don't know if it's long to wait for the order in rush hour.

                      lagatta May 4, 2013 04:33 AM

Now the weather is nice so you can get that to take away and have a picnic in nearby Jarry Park!

                      How is their plantain?

Fried plantain is very good also crispy and tender inside.
The prices are a joke 7.50$ for meal of griot and riz collé (that can easily be a meal for 2). I'm just suffed after eating that. And that's the small portion.

They are closed on Sunday I believe.

I would suggest Delices Caraibe. Another casse-croute with ridiculously huge portions but tasty griot (not dry) and freshly fried chicken. Good stuff.

No it's actually on Henri-Bourassa. I don't know the exact address but I'll look it up and post it soon.

It's 6101 Henri-Bourassa East. It's 6$ for a full plate of griot, rice and beans, macaroni salad and banane pesée. As mentionned earlier the portions are ridiculous big (like they think you haven't eaten in days) but tasty.

Arg it sounds like a delicious deal, why does this place have to be located so far away from a metro station!

I always thought that they cook it dry intentionally

and yes I do find Ange Et Ricky to be very overrated. The flavours and spices are okay but otherwise it's just slightly overpriced reheated meals...

Hope they improve the lady was very nice and even gave me a tasting menu of the 2 dishes she had that day. It wasn't on the money so much that I end it up going to the other place on jarry to have my fix.
