Very poor Ruen Pair experience

1. Requested red curry as spicy as possibly. Was warned that even medium is hot. I compromise and ask for 8 out of 10. Curry arrives as thin as soup, with a spice rating I'd give a 3. I tell the waitress--she takes it away, and brings it back now full of dried chili flakes. Aside from a lack of spice, there was also a dearth of any other discernible flavor.

2. Pad see ew. Tasteless, grease bomb.

3. Parking $2. As if people are going to park there just to walk the glorious surroundings.

I've had issues with Jitlada as well (obviously left over chicken when I still ate chicken, consistently undercooked potatoes in their masaman curry, small portions), but I guess I'm stuck with it.

I haven't had any great meals at Ruen Pair. It's always seemed pretty ordinary to me. But I haven't had any bad meals either.

I don't expect anything much from a dish not on Jitlada's southern Thai menu, but the stuff on the southern Thai menu is often extraordinary.

I suggest you try Yai's on Hollywood and order it pet pet or pet ma. They'll make your food knock your socks off spicy and flavorful. I like the larb fish and similar dishes with sticky rice.

Ruen Pair? Why, when Ganda is across the parking lot?

Thanks for the Ganda recc. I went for my first time and had some very tasty panang curry--just wish it had more veg and less tofu. I also had my first rad na..not sure if the gravy is always like that, but it was sort of off-putting in a tasteless, snot-like sort of way.

Ruen Pair is the best at 2 am. Just deal with it.

While my meals at Ruen Pair have been good, not great, I would encourage anybody going to avoid the curry. It's just not what they do well.

I never get spicy stuff @ Ruen Pair, usually just duck noodles, sauteed greens. I don't always like to gasp for air as I eat, but I have noticed that they're really weak on the heat, but probably always have been? And, I always go for lunch, not dinner, when they don't charge for parking. But at $2, that's pretty cheap parking. And as you say - glorious surroundings (you're talking about that donut shop I assume).

Anyone know if this is related to the Ruen Pair in the Bay (Berkeley and Oakland)? I went to the one in Berkeley, and they were able to bring the heat - as much, and maybe even moreso than Jitlada (though they damn near asked for my street cred when I asked for Thai spicy).
