Chez Piggy is overpriced. Only been once on a late Friday night, but was totally disappointed. Although minor, some of the decor seemed really outdated as well. For a fancier fine dining experience, I liked Aquaterra much better.
Always have enjoyed Curry Original, Atomica, Chien Noir, Casa Domenico.

re: JennaBean
JennaBean -- I'm curious to hear an update on Luke's. Have you been lately? I was there about 4 years ago and was sort of lukewarm (no pun intended) on the whole experience. I asked myself "if I didn't know this chef was 17, would I be impressed?" The answer was decidedly mixed. There were a few highlights, but several lowlights and way too much repetition across his dishes at the time (the rabbit rillette showed up on 80% of the dishes, for example). I love what he's trying to do, especially given his age, but I'm not sure I'd want to risk a celebratory dinner on him. But like I said, I'd love to hear an update and hear how he's matured in the last few years!

re: TorontoJo
My family is from Kingston so I get to there often. When we want something out of the ordinary in K-town we head to Luke's. When looking at options in Kingston I think it is one of the better ones for the area. I really like Chez Piggy and think it is a good choice but I've eaten there so many times in the years that it has been open and I now find it boring. I do agree that Luke is not always 100 percent but I think that the effort and at the very least the thought behind the construction of the dishes merit praise even when the execution isn't perfect.
Specifically, I haven't has an experience where one item was a repeat on many of the dishes but maybe I've just been lucky?

re: JennaBean
I think Luke's is pretty good, we ate within the last month in fact and really enjoyed it. I wouldn't recommend it unqualified for this though. It is adventurous cooking in both technique and ingredients and in most random groups of people and their parents (as opposed to a group of all foodies) you can pretty much guarantee that there will be some people who just won't like it, I know how my father would react, which to be clear, is negatively. I'm also not sure how Luke's would cope with a party of more than 6 people, I know when the group of 10 hounds went the party size was an issue.
I'm not sure I would also describe the atmosphere at Luke's as fun, again he has fun with the food and some of the dishes can be very witty, but the room vibe is pretty cool/quiet unless you get your fun watching Luke's poor mother repeatedly bonking into the hanging decorations. You're probably going to be the only party there (I've yet to talk to anyone who's eaten there where they were not the only party served that night) so I guess you can make your own fun.
Myself I would go for Chien Noir for something like this.
