Is La Grenouille still great?

I''ve heard that it's fallen somewhat and is less regal and more touristy. Is this true? Shd I go somewhere else for a great anniversary dinner? But where?

I think it's as lovely as ever. I love the decor, always have, and I enjoy the service, the ambience, and the atmosphere. I have no idea if it's "touristy."

If you like classic French cuisine and enjoy this type of restaurant, La Grenouille is the only show in town. It's the last of its breed in NYC.

It really depends on what type of experience you're after.

Totally agree with gutsofsteel. La Grenouille is a wonderful throwback and serves very good French classics. And on the night I was there, the only person that appeared to be a tourist was Aretha Franklin having dinner there with friends. Everyone else looked like La Grenouille "regulars" -- if you've been, you know what I mean -- which somehow added to the "theatre" of the experience.

We went to la Grenouille last year and we didn't feel it was touristy at all - just classic French in its atmosphere & service...and cuisine. You might want to also consider the River Café, which is in the same price range and too often forgotten due to its Brooklyn address . However it's just a short ride from Manhattan across the Brooklyn Bridge, - the view is fabulous, the service exceptional, and the food is great.

Ok. An all out Haute Cuisine battle: where to go Daniel v. La Grenouille?

Daniel, definitely. It's even more regal than La Grenouille, and the food is more sumptuous.

              Apples vs oranges.

              I prefer La Grenouille.

More like Golden Delicious and Granny Smith. Both should be in your playbook.

I agree ... two different experiences. And I agree with others that it's not in the least bit touristy or, at least, that is my experience on my four or five visits over the past year.

La Grenouille is superb, and now a unique experience in NYC, as others have noted. Go before it disappears.

I also loved La G when I went in August. As for it vs Daniel again two different experiences. Do not miss them.
