Food at the Real Sports Bar and Grill- Maple Leaf Square
Anyone have any commentary on what is good or what to avoid here? Going later in the week for dinner and just would like to hear any comments from fellow Chowhounds.
Real Sports Bar & Grill
15 York St, Toronto, ON M5J, CA
went there for the Raptors' home opener. here's my general review:
Concept: its basically a vegas bar in Toronto. its huge and impactful. it is packed to the roof 2 hrs before a Leafs' or Raptors' game. you should make a reservation if you don't want to wait in line for long or want a seat. table turnover is very quick, apparently.
Beer: decent beer selection. some microbrews, not a lot of crazy beer choices, but beer snobs will find something to drink (I had a Grasshoper and a Stiegel as draft and a bottle of La Fin du Monde, i think).
Food: the menu's big and not insanely expensive. we started off with nachoes topped with pulled pork. it was pretty tasty. nachos could have used a wee bit more meat and cheese, but i won't complain (its hard to find good nachos in Toronto). it was very tasty and quite large. i think 3-4 of us worked on it and it killed my appetite for the main.
i had a burger topped with pulled pork. for a Toronto burger, it was pretty good. it was very meaty but not overly juicy. again, its hard to find an amazing burger in Toronto, but for a pub burger, it was huge and pretty good. it came with a cute metal mini-deep-fryer basket of fries that were good. i didn't spy what other people were eating other than the wings, that looked quite good.
if you're looking for high end, this ain't it. but it is high end pub food that's done quite good. considering that you're there for the atmosphere, the food is a really nice bonus and i would definitely eat there again.
I've heard good things about this place, they also are now showing every UFC event, so I think it would probably be a really good place to go watch it. I hear the place is massive..
Food is GREAT for pub
We have tried most items on the menu and were happy
The atmosphere is primo and the big screen is crazzzzzzzy !
Had a great time last night...interesting place...loaded with TV's everywhere...we had a booth with it's own private TV...
As for food...2 of us split the calamari appetizer...nice non-greasy but a nondescript dip served with it. I had the southwestern chopped salad...good flavour but too much dressing...should have asked for it on the side. One of my pals had the "lettuce" burger...burger served between 2 lettuce leaves...she said the burger was really nicely cooked and quite flavourful. My other pal had the fish and chips which she seemed to enjoy. Lots of beer choices... 4 pints of draft and our food came to almost $100 before tip.
