Rockefeller Center area recommendation? Beacon, Brasserie 8.5, Triompe, Glass House, Nios, Ca Va

Going to the city for annual girls weekend. We have tickets to SNL Rehearsal show and need a great place near Roc Ctr. In checking opentable, these are a few that came up. Any recommendations or comments appreciated. (Italian, French, Med, American, Seafood, Contemp)

i really like alto over on 5th and 53rd. it's not too far, a mere few blocks away. please get the braised veal & truffle ravioli in the taleggio fonduta.

What about the Modern or the Modern Bar in MOMA? Morrell's Wine Bar is another idea. I assume you realize some on your list are not that close to Rock Ctr. and are more in the theater district.

I highly recommend Ma Peche on W. 56 St. With a group, you'll be able to sample many of their wonderful dishes.

I'll agree with rrems that Oceana is "better rated" (NYT, Zagat) than the places on your list. However, for a girl's-night-out type of affair, Beacon is a lot of fun, with good drinks, a crowd-pleasing menu and a great waitstaff that'll treat a table of ladies very well. Plus, the room, with that wood-burning oven aroma, is perfect for fall or winter.

Beacon is one of my favorite restaurants in New York. Not sure why it continues to fly under the radar. The food is excellent-to-great, and they have a fun bar area, as well. I wouldn't exactly call it in the Rock Center area, though, it's on 56th Street between 5th and 6th. (closer to 5th).
