So the rainy fall weather has me craving pumpkin. I live in Santa Monica, and I've made the rounds once already:

Fritto Misto's Pumpkin Ravioli
Pumpkin Curry and Chandni
Pumpkin pastry at Amandine
Pumpkin Ale at the Library (this was BAD, Buffalo Bill's changes it's recipe every year, and this one is awful!)

And now I'm stuck. I have vague memories of Pumpkin soup from last year, and a better pumpkin ale (Dogfish Head) from three or four years ago... but I have no recollection of where to get them.

Any pumpkin tips would be welcome. I travel far and wide for work, so anything from South Orange County to Ventura is fair game.

sorry I don't have a suggestion (well, other than my house, I love pumpkins and make about a million things every year), but I do have a warning.

stay away from the pumpkin ravioli at Zucca. My sister and I were there last week and they were really gummy and tasteless. however, they do offer a pumpkin bread in their basket that was excellent.

I recommend Dr. Bob's pumpkin ice cream. Words don't do it justice. You can buy it at Surfa's, Stroh's, and some of the other places that carry a wider selection of Dr. Bob's.

Dr. Bob's is great, but Double Rainbow is smoother and spicier. Last year we had a taste off (Baskin Robbins, Coldstone, Dr. Bob's, and Double Rainbow).

Double Rainbow won it at a trot. Spiciness was the key!

Baskin Robbins -- any "31 Flavors" shop

Coldstone -- Any Coldstone Creamery

Dr. Bob's -- Gelsons or Bristol Farms

Double Rainbow -- Trader Joe's, but it usually arrives late (after Halloween).

I know it's probably too far for you, but right now Elio is doing his sensational pumpkin ravioli in sage butter sauce at Mezzomondo... Just east of Whitsett, on Ventura.

i have to say that of all the pumpkin ravioli that i've tried, the one at il buco (on robertson right above wilshire) takes the cake. it's in a sage butter sauce that i cannot describe without craving. sweet ravioli in a slightly salty sauce, it is AMAZING. plus, they are so nice there, and it's always easy to get reservations.
also, i haven't had them in about a year and a half, but i remember the pumpkin pancakes at the griddle in hollywood were good. they came with a huge dollop of pumpkin pie filling and whipped cream in the center. one order was enough for at least 2 people/ up to 4, to share.

In the name of all things holy, you must visit the Griddle Cafe on Sunset (just west of Fairfax) for pumpkin pancakes - these suckers are MASSIVE, cinnamony, with pumpkin puree and spiced whipped cream. Not for the faint of heart or the light eater. So good!
