Finding Sea Beans

I've had fresh sea bean a few times at restaurants in the bay area and in Vancouver. I love them!! No success so far in locating them to buy and cook myself. Does anyone know where to find the in San Francisco, the peninsula or the South Bay. I live on the coast, where you'd think we'd find them since they're "sea" beans....

You are looking for Salicornia. When Top Chef had their Hawaiian show I thought that "Sea Beans" were seeds from plants that washed out to sea and then were deposited on beaches. Silly me.

Yes, they have them right now at Far West. $3 per basket (around a pint).

Ditto Berkeley Bowl, though neither is in the requested area.

I've found them on occasion at Rainbow Grocery.

I'm not on the West Coast, but here in the East, "Whole Foods" carries them frequently at certain times of the year. If they don't have them currently, I'm sure they can give you an idea when they might.

Rainbow Grocery has had them regularly lately. They stock them next to the wild mushrooms and other foraged products--I assume their supplier is the same mushroom foragers who partially supply Far West Fungi, which is why Far West's store in the Ferry Plaza has them too sometimes. Rainbow has parking and is a lot easier to deal with, for me.
