Cape May Suggestions

We will be spending a night in Capr May next week. My wife and I enjoy "fine dining", so looking for a place that has a good menu, great wine list and preferably a nice bar.

"American", French, seafood are preferred....no Asian (chinese, Thai, Indian)

Any suggestions for a restaurant?

Any suggestions for a B&B?

Many of the better places to dine in Cape May are BYOB. If the place must have a bar, then try the Ebbitt Room. They have creative dishes with plenty of seafood options. I remember the crab salad being really delicious, as well as my skate. The restaurant itself is in The Virginia, which is a great option for a place to stay.

If you are willing to forgo the bar and BYO, check out Tisha's Fine Dining, which is now on Washington St. There is a liquor store around the corner with a nice selection of wines. Their menu leans Italian, but there are some American and Asian influences as well. After dinner you can walk to the Brown Room in Congress Hall for nightcaps and great music.

The Black Duck Inn is a BYO and is an Asian fusion menu. I loved everything I had there, but if you don't like Asian flavors it might not work.

Do not stay at the Inn at Cape May. Though it is historic, the rooms are in shameful condition for what they charge nightly.

We've had excellent dinners at both Washington Inn and Union Park. I like the blackened prime rib at 410 Bank, but I don't think it's as nice a place for dinner as either of the first two (nor is Black Duck).

Union Park is BYO, so if you have a special bottle of wine or two you'd like to have with dinner, this would be the place to go. Washington Inn, OTOH, has one of the best wine cellars in the state, and we found their pricing to be very reasonable. I don't think you can go wrong with either, and their menus are available on line for you to check out.

Finally, we've heard good things about the Ebbitt Room and Peter Shields, but haven't made it to either yet. Their menus are also available on line.

As for B&B's, while we usually rent a house in Cape May Point when we're down there, we've stayed at - and enjoyed - the Abbey, in the heart of the historic district.; however, that was years ago, and I cannot vouch for its current state. We've also stayed at Congress Hall (for a wedding), and while it's not as charming as the B&B's, it's certainly a decent option with a nice bar and lounge (the Brown Room, mentioned above).
