Restaurants w/ extensive tasting menus for small, fun holiday dinner party?

Hi--I'm looking for any reco's for restaurants with extensive tasting menus. My cousins and I want to do a holiday dinner at a nice restaurant instead of getting each other gifts (more memorable since we just like to eat really well). We've gone to XIV a handful of times to do the tasting menu, but I'm sure there are better restaurants out there. I was thinking Providence, but wanted to ask the CHOW community for any other suggestions. Thank you!

just went to LA Farm. Wonderful tasting menu. extensive. good wine list. nice for holiday party. service unobtrusive. Melisse is great, but it becomes about hte theater ofthe dinner, not about the party.

AOC is also a top choice of mine for small tasting plates. Excellent food and a top selection of wines.

Providence is a fabulous restaurant and one of my favorites....but the tasting menu at Saam is really a great experience.

If you want a tasting menu that probably includes Bazaar, Ortolan and Spago. You can even do a private chef's table at Saam at the Bazaar.
