Preserved Celeste figs
I grew up in New Orleans in the '50s and '60s, and we always had tins of whole, preserved Louisiana Celeste figs in the cupboard.
The tins had a beautiful old-fashioned label, and were briefly available in NYC in the 1970s at high-end gourmet stores like Dean & Deluca. (Wish I could remember the brand name, although I suspect the company has long since gone out of business.)
I occasionally run across fig preserves in NYC, but none of these brands use whole figs, let alone Celeste figs, and Celeste figs are what I have my heart set on!
For some reason, Google has not been my friend today. I'll keep searching, but in the meantime, does anyone know of a local source for whole, preserved Celeste figs?
Thanks much!
