Sole Spanish Grill (Charlotte)

GodfatherofLunch Oct 28, 2010 05:13 PM

Just heard a rumor that Sole Spanish Grill on East Blvd. will be closing down after this Saturday. Has anyone heard anything about this?

The owner of the building is Martin Sprock of Moe's, Mama Fu, etc infamy. We have tried to get info from him, but all is tight lipped at the moment. I anticipate he will put one of his concepts in there. I will post something when I get the scoop. We have a Italian concept that wants to go there, but so far no luck...

Marvin Sprock is the founder of Raving Brands. I don't know if he is still with them but I doubt Moe's or Mama Fu will be coming to that spot as both are already located just blocks away. I would not be surprised if he rented the place to one of the other restaurants on East Blvd. that need to move because the medical center has purchased the property. When you refer to we having an Italian concept are you referring to Vapiano?

No, we put Vapiano Uptown in Mayfield Gentry's building. I have a client that had an Italian restaurant in town for years that wants to be in a Myers Park/Dilworth/South End type area that would work well there. He does not need much space, so Sole would work well. Not sure what Sprock has planned, we have sent him letters, but have not received a response. I will keep you posted if I hear anything.

Sole closes; Zen picks up dishes

Sole Spanish Grille will close after Oct. 30 after an unsuccessful lease extension attempt, ending a nine-year run in Dilworth, says partner Phong Luong. In a statement, the owners recall their neighborhood history, with the defunct Tio Montero (now Brixx) and Ole Ole (now a Dunkin' Donuts), and note that they'll be moving several of Sole's most popular dishes to their Zen fusion restaurant (now even more fusion) two blocks away. Paella, berejena rellena (that stuffed eggplant) and the tres leches cake will all appear at Zen, at 1716 Kenilworth Ave.; 704-358-9688. Miro at StoneCrest is still open, and it and Zen will honor any Sole gift certificates.
