Want to have a party at a DINER

  • 9

Hey does anyone have any good recommendations for Diners or Diner like restaurants--preferably downtown---that could accommodate a large group for a birthday party?

Looking for something with a fun atmosphere, and preferably a layout that would allow for people to hang around, mingle, sit and eat if they want, drink, everything.

Obviously needs to serve booze.

Done something similar at the Village Den in the W.Village, but its kind of sterile in there, looking for something with a little more personality. Also like The Smith in the East Village, but maybe looking for a little more intimate, to possibly rent out completely.

  1. it doesnt sound like your looking for a "diner diner", The Empire Diner is an upscale diner , but i dont think it's what youre looking for. Maybe something like Walker's in Tribeca, and you can take the who back room. They have excellent burgers, and other stuff too, but the burgers are really great. or maybe kinda like Circle Rouge, i'll call it a French Diner, good assortment of things.
Kitchenette is dinerish, in tribeca, maybe you can take the whole place for a couple of hours.

The Empire Diner is no more...a thing of the past

    2. i know this isn't manhattan but you could attempt to rent out DINER, in williamsburg (a quick ride over the bridge!). the food is amazing, and the space is, indeed, a tiny, former diner car. food is upscale compared to an actual diner, though - no 5$ grilled cheese sammie here.

      1. Why not The Diner, at 9th Ave. and 14 St.? Totally a "diner," food is pretty good and not outrageously priced.

Diner in Williamsburg is great too, but not cheap.

        1. big daddy's? there are a few around the city. they do parties and have a full bar.

            Thanks for the recommendations everyone.
Walkers is a little more pub-like than what I'm looking for, and I like DINER in Williamsburg, but most people at the party live in Manhattan so I would prefer to keep it close to home.

Hadn't heard of The Diner in Chelsea.
Also looking at the Sullivan Diner, and Square Diner in Tribeca.
Has anyone been to Remedy Diner on the LES? What did you think of it?

is the diner on w. 4th street off 6th avenue still around? or how about the waverly diner on 6th and waverly?

Yes, soon after it opened. It looks the part, but I was unimpressed with the food. I can't even remember what I had - probably the tuna melt. The service was comically slow and amateurish (but it may be better now). And I'm not sure they serve alcohol.

                  Thanks.
Now thinking of Clinton St Baking Co....really like how small it is.
