Amber steakhouse

Has anyone been to Amber Steakhouse in Greenpoint yet? Going tomorrow night and was wondering if anyone has recommendations.

  1. We went on Friday for dinner and had a wonderful time. It wasn't very crowded and we asked a waiter how the business was going and he said they weren't doing great. I hope people start going as it was a great local place.

The menu has some good non steak options, not that I can remember what they are off the top of my head. We were a party of five and split 3 apps, hey were:

Fried calamari - it was good, nothing exciting but solid basic calamari
Shrimp scampi - we all really enjoyed it. Again, pretty standard stuff
Scallops with avocado mashed potatoes and a truffle bordelaise sauce - this was the first "wow" of the night. Scallops were perfectly cooked and the mashed potatoes were a perfect blend of avocado and potato.

For entrees, two of us had bone in ribeye, one person had strip steak, one lamb shank with mushroom risotto and one chicken breast.

My ribeye was med-rare and came out a little closer to medium. My brothers both said the same about their steaks. However, very juicy with a great char and just the right amount of butter on them. The lamb shank was excellent and I will probably get that next time.

All in all a very enjoyable meal. For three apps, five entrees, five desserts and lots of drinks, and a generous tip, the bill came to about $375.

I’m sorry really? You just said that you enjoyed avocado mashed potatoes???

This just sounds like the most awful idea I have ever heard…

Not only did I enjoy it, I loved it.

I just looked at their website. The prices are extremely low for a steakhouse. Do they use prime meat? I saw no mention of that anywhere.

The prices are very cheap. They do use prime meat. The owner also owns the butcher shop right next door. That might have something to do with the prices being low.

Edit: I just double-checked the article I read. It doesn't mention if it's prime meat, just that it's aged.
