Gourmet Eats - Not far from LAX
Going to LA on business for a week ...I have never been to this part of California - Staying at the Westin LAX - Only have 1 (maybe 2) night(s) to go discover some good food as the rest is tied up w/ meetings and obligations...Criteria: Price is no problem. Ambiance - At least good, preferably exceptional (although I will be dining alone!), Genre - Any. I love just about anything that is good from gourmet to burgers.... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...Thanks in advance....
Cafe del Rey in the Marina for sure. Don't know where you're from, but this week we have an Indian summer with temps in the high 80's so you'll have a real Southern Californian experience. This is my go to place to take the out-of- towners. Great place for excellent food, view of the marina and the sunset. Lively bar scene too if you're so inclined.
Don't know if you have a car, but some of the best restaurants in LA are in Venice and Santa Monica. Be sure to go to at least two of these, in order of must-go-to
Catch at Casa del Mar (view is unbeatable, too)
The Wilshire (further cab ride)

Petros and Izakaya by Katsuya in Manhattan Beach are both very good. I have heard that Open Sesame in Manhattan Village Mall has excellent Mediterranean food, but I've never been. Paul Martin's American Bistro in El Segundo is solid too. They have really good banana cream pie. Caffe Pinguini in Playa Del Rey is great for Italian, as is Antica Pizzeria in Marina Del Rey (though the ambiance is nothing special).
