Food and service are consistently excellent here.Owner/chef Evan is always exploring new ingredients (saba anyone? bamboo rice?)and the multi-cultural menu is diverse and intriguing.Unusually good house made breads. I'm tempted to say that seafood options are his strength, as his are particularly satisfying (any and all of his seafood 'stews' are dependably excellent; this dinner's sauteed bird shrimp with carrot harissa). He also does alot w/ game and he forages his own wild mushrooms ( this dinner's rabbit fricasee with noodles and wild mushrooms; mmm.) Portions are generous; pricing is reasonable. While we live 20 minutes north of downtown Boston, we will often choose the 45 min. drive to Portsmouth for the delights of Black Trumpet followed by a walk around this handsome historic city.
We especially enjoy combining Bl.Tr. w/ a concert or film at the Music Hall . Though we could have seen the same performer at Berklee the night before, we chose to see Buika in Portsmouth on Sunday night, preceded by this dinner.Parking and walking are so easy; the whole experience is much more intimate than in a crowded noisy large urban environment.
