Not Getting All Posts Via RSS?

I set up the Chowhound Boston Board RSS feed in Google Reader and for some reason I don't get all messages that are posted. As an example, I see the original post and the 3rd reply from this topic - http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/743257 , but never see the other replies. It seems to happen with most topics as far as I can tell.

Anyone else seeing this?

Now that I look at the RSS link the replys aren't there either - http://chowhound.chow.com/boards/12/r... Shouldn't all items show up?

There is a problem ticket open on this issue, but it goes back as long as we've had RSS feeds. I believe the feeds are kind of a mix of per thread and per post that doesn't work well as either.

Basically, the RSS feeds contain one entry per updated thread -- the last post made to the thread. If you use an RSS reader that pulls the RSS file when you open the reader, you'll get one entry per updated posts.

Google reader, however, pulls the RSS feeds every so often and saves the data. So you'll get more than one post per thread in your Reader feed. But if there have been multiple posts made to the same thread between the times when Google pulled them, it'll miss all but the most recent, so you won't get all the threads.

I can't say when or if this will be addressed, but I hope the explanation helps with an understanding of what's happening.

Thanks a lot for the explanation. That does help me understand better. It's good to know at least there's an entry for each post so I can just click through and get all of the replies. I just thought I might have been missing something.

      Thanks again for the information.
