Fort Lauderdale visitors need help
My wife and I will be spending a week in Fort Lauderdale and are looking for food we can't get in Ohio: fresh seafood, especially grouper and crabs; Cuban: good deli - I was told Pomperdale's? We will have a car and don't mind traveling a reasonable distance. Moderate priced places preferred, but an occasional splurge is good also. Ethnic spots are also fine if especially worthwhile - we have good Thai, middle eastern, Indian where we live. Thanks.

I second Candela, and throw in El Tamarindo on St Rd 84 for Latin American food. And not that Candela is pricey, but El Tamarindo is even less so.
There is a very good deli in Davie/Plantation on University a little south of 595 called Tower Deli. The best Nova you have ever had!

We really like Calypso, too. Also for very good seafood 3030 Ocean and Sunfish Grill (both a little more upscale). If you find a good deli in F.L., please let us know where it is.

For "food we can't get in Ohio: fresh seafood... moderately priced" look no further than Calypso Restaurant in Pompano (just N of Ft Lauderdale). Search this board for "Calypso" and you'll see the tons of favorable comments. Those same threads will likely have other good suggestions. You'll get a great sampling of Florida/Carribean seafood (and more) here.

For a Latin Sth FL experience try Candela, 2909 NE 6 Ave Wilton Manors 33334. Small cosy place just sth of Oakland Park Blvd in tiny strip mall. Chef/Owner Armando is Cuban, learnt the biz in Spain so those influences plus Italian. Very good value and authentic "non-Chain" experience. Enjoy!
