Anyone eaten at Oak?
I've heard mixed reviews of Oak, the wine bar on Oak St,. and not seen much here. Has anyone eaten at Oak, and, if so, how's the food? They claim to stay open until "about ," even on weeknights. Has anyone eaten there late/ know if they serve food until closing time? Thanks.

Up front, one of the owners is my niece. I have enjoyed the place on three occasions. It is a tapas menu...which explains the small portions. Nothing small about the flavor or quality of the food...menu was created by the chef at Patois. I too have had the cheese plate, also the olives, a blue cheese and filet sandwich and the best french fries in the world. In defense of the bartenders...the place has only been open 2 months. They have been swamped and it will take them some time to automatically put their hands on the bottle you have requested. The last time I was there, there were two groups of 30+ Moms having a night out with the girls. Worth a trip, if ony to see the beautiful white onyx bar and the decor.
Never have heard of Blanton's Bourbon, but I like the description. My husband likes Buffalo Trace. What is the difference between these two?

re: nomadchowwoman
Oak is open until 12 AM Tuesday - Thursday and until 1 AM on Friday and Saturday. It is closed on Sunday and Monday. City ordinance governs their closing time, so I would think that if you order food a half hour before closing, this would allow the kitchen time to prepare it and you with time to consume it and still meet their closing time.

I had the "pork belly" sandwich, which was a huge disappointment. Not pork belly at all, more like thinly sliced pork chop without any of the fatty, bacon-like goodness I'm used to with pork belly. My friends had the duck confit salad and the the calamari, which they said was pretty good, though the portions were small
Also, neither my server nor the bartender knew what my order of Blanton's Bourbon was. Isn't this the south, WTF. I had to describe the bottle to both of them, which is totally amateur.
