In despearte need of a good, old-timey, greasy spoon diner on the UES. It's like a no-man's land in that dept. up here.
Any suggestions??

  1. Neil's Coffee Shop, Lex & 70th. It's not that good, but it meets the rest of your criteria.

    1. Not so "upper" East Side but Scotty's Diner On Lex @ 39th has great cheap food.

The Lennox Grill (I think that's the name) on Lexington Ave. near Lennox Hill Hospital -- about 76th St. There's also a Burger Heaven a block or so up, closer to St. Jean Baptiste church.

      2. Right now for dinner I like Mansion Diner on York at 86 St, and Peter's on 1st Ave btwn 83 & 84 Streets. For breakfast I don't like Mansion but Peter's makes great eggs and home fries. IMO the best home fries in NYC. Peter's also makes a tasty burger. Gracie Mews on 1st Ave at 81 St makes a great waffle but anything that includes home fries is ruined by them. Gracie Mews also tends to burn your eggs no matter what way you order them. 79th Street Diner at 1st and 79th is hopeless, don't even bother. Timmy's at York and 91 St is just plain bad food which is too bad as it looks like a nice place. BTW, Soup Burg on Lex at 76 St makes a really great egg cream.
