weeknight dinner in Seaport Area
A friend from London is staying at The Boston Harbor Hotel, so I thought dinner in this area would be a nice walk from the hotel - anybody have any recent favorites ? She is open to all cuisines, except sushi. Thanks.

Boston Harbor Hotel or Seaport Hotel? The former is Rowe's Wharf, with lots of dining around, while the latter is the limited assortment mentioned.

re: Willy Wonka
If this is the Boston Harbor on Rowe's Wharf, Meritage in the hotel is quite good and Sel de la Terre is a short walk from the hotel. I frankly can't imagine coming from London and going to Myers and Chang which has no Boston vibe and always seems to me, while an ok restaurant, corporately engineered and could be anywhere. If your friend is going to cab it, go to Orinoco or Hamersley or Rocca. Someplace a little more personal, at any rate.

Keep in mind that none of HB's suggestions for Fort Point would be considered high end. Or even medium end! Tha said, I had dinner for the first time at Channel Cafe recently and was very pleased with the food. And Lucky's would be a great, casual place for her to get a feeling for Boston/Fort Point.

re: hiddenboston
This just in !
She just mentioned that her business contacts here have recommended Sams ( at Louis) and Myers and Chang. Have not been to either so I'll await your reply !! Aside from rating the food - how is the noise level for being able to hold a conversation at either place?-
re: pasta
I've been a bit scared off by Sam's, mainly due to some bad reviews from both restaurant critics and diners, so I haven't been there yet. I did check it out briefly to see the space, and the views are beautiful. But you can't go wrong with Myers + Chang. Excellent food, good people, and fairly reasonable prices. The noise level can be a bit high at M+C, but on weeknights especially, it shouldn't be too bad.

She will be within walking distance of both Chinatown and the North End, with lots of good places in each area. In the former, I like Taiwan Cafe, East Ocean City, and Hong Kong Eatery; in the latter, I like Pagliuca's, L'Osteria, Regina's, and La Summa.

re: pasta
There aren't a ton of options in the Seaport area. Salvatore's is pretty good, Aura is supposed to be decent (I haven't been there yet), and Whiskey Priest is ok for a drink, though I wasn't all that impressed by the food. Sam's has gotten mixed reviews, as has LTK. I'd consider heading closer to the Fort Point area to either Lucky's, Sportello, or Channel Cafe.

re: hiddenboston
Aura has good food but the space is terrible--it's like they threw some tables in a hotel lobby. I can't recommend Drink enough, for cocktails and small bites to eat (they have great steak tartare). Sportello (upstairs from Drink) is good but a little overpriced in my mind, but a good option combined with Drink. I am not a fan of the Barking Crab, but I do admit to really liking the No Name for simple preparations of seafood.
