Midtown low-key for drinks, food tonight
I'm looking for a place for a few friends and I to get a drink and possibly some food after an event tonight in Midtown (46th btwn Mad & 5th). Here are the criteria:
-not too loud (we'll want to talk)
-reasonably priced (glass of wine $8-$12)
-decent food. We'll probably order something, but not a full, sit-down dinner. Pub food or tapas would be fine, as long as it's not a sports bar scene or too crowded.
-We all need to take the subway home, so something near the 1,2,3 or F,M or N,R would be ideal.
I feel as if this would be easy to find downtown, but I don't know Midtown well anymore.

Another option quite close to your starting point is La Fonda del Sol. It's in the MetLife Buiding, entrance at 45th and Vanderbilt. Wines by the glass, sherry and drinks in the price range you suggest, and very good tapas. Can be noisy earlier in the evening during commuter rush, but quieter later. Then from Grand Central you can take the shuttle to Times Square and trasnfer to 1, 2, 3, N, R or walk to Bryant Park station for F, M.

Since the weather is going to be great today, check out "Upstairs at The Kimberly." The venue is lovely and, while some of the drinks are out of your range, there are plenty of glasses that cost at or below $12. Located near the M train (53rd/Lex): http://upstairsnyc.com/index.php
