Will be in Los Angeles for my birthday. My host has suggested Rivera, Hatfield, and Lucques as possible dinner choices. Thoughts?

Just spent our 13th wedding anniversary at Hatfield's

It was wonderful and a great special occasion spot. I have not been to Rivera, but Hatfield's definitely blew any meal at Lucques we had in the past, out of the water.

I guess I don't understand the importance of a 60th birthday recommendation. Somehow, I don't see Paul McCartney posing this question:)

Not sure what the OP's background is, but in Japanese culture, the 60th marks a turning point in a person's life, both in work and personal goals. It is so important, the 60th b-day even has its own name, called a "kanreki", and is celebrated as a sort of festival by all who know this person.

So yes, a big deal to find a nice place to mark this turning point.
